How long would I have to wear Invisalign?
Times vary between patients depending on the corrections we make to your smile. Because Invisalign wearing instructions are based on how long you wear them each day, the average treatment timeline for most patients is about 12 months.
Can I eat or drink while wearing the Invisalign aligners?
You must remove your aligners before you eat or drink, with the exception of plain water. The same goes for brushing your teeth and other oral hygiene steps. Eating food can scratch or damage the aligners, and drinking things like coffee would stain them, so they’re no longer invisible. Remove them when needed, and then put them back when ready!
Are there any risks of Invisalign?
Like any medical treatment, big or small, there are some inherent risks with Invisalign. However, you can avoid most of the risks with proper care and help from your dentist. Some of the risks include wearing down your teeth quicker, light TMJ-type issues, and the aligners breaking. Again, these are all easily fixed with help from your dentist.
What happens if I don’t wear my aligners for 22 hours daily?
If you don’t wear your aligners enough, your treatment is going to take longer. The aligners need to stay in for a certain amount of time so that your teeth can adjust to being in this new position. They risk moving back and shifting around when you aren’t wearing them enough, meaning you’ll need lengthier treatment.
Can I speed up my Invisalign treatment?
No, and you can suffer dangerous consequences if you attempt to. Your bone and soft tissue need time to adjust to the new positioning so that your teeth stay stable. You feel some discomfort each time you switch to a new set of aligners as your teeth adjust. Just because you no longer feel that discomfort doesn’t mean that you’re ready for new aligners. If you switch them out too quickly, your teeth can become loose and even fall out.
Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?
